Anyway, back to the business meeting. A gentleman came up to introduce himself to me at the meeting and we promptly shook hands. As soon as we shook hands, he complimented me on what a nice firm handshake I gave. Well, as you can imagine, I couldn't have been happier with his comment and we went on to discuss how annoying it is when someone doesn't give you a nice good handshake. Seems like he "got it" too!
I did a little research on this topic and found that a nice firm, but not bone-shattering handshake is considered important and appreciated by most, both in the world of business and beyond. It is also important to remember to make eye contact with the person whose hand you're shaking.
So what does your handshake say about you? Do you appreciate and value a nice handshake when greeting someone? Share your thoughts on handshakes by leaving us a comment here on this post. The best handshake story may just receive a little reward.
Happy Handshaking!

Elizabeth, I completely agree with you. A proper handshake can speak volumes about you. A firm handshake shows confidence - even more so when you look the person in the eyes while shaking. I like to remember that you only get one chance to make a good first impression - a nice, firm handshake is a great way to do just that!
I POSITIVELY, 100% AGREE THAT A HANDSHAKE DEFINSES THE FRIST IMPRESSION YOU HAVE OF SOMEONE. BEING IN SALES, I HAVE HAD MEN OFFER ME THEIR HAND AND IT IS AS LIMP AS A DISH RAG, AND IT REALLY MAKES FOR AN AKWARD MOMENT AND MIXED FIRST IMPRESSIONS. LIKEWISE, I HAVE HAD A WOMAN SHAKE MY HAND AND ALMOST BRING ME TO MY KNEES! I HAVE ALWAYS LEARNED THAT A PROPRER HANDSHAKE IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS EYE CONTACT, BEING WELL DRESS AND HAVING GOOD MANORS AT ALL TIMES, BECAUSE YOU ONLY HAVE ONE CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION!
Sooo funny!! I am the exact same way. I pride myself on my firm handshake with direct eye contact! It's something I think I learned in college and I find so important. I can't tell you how many times I've been complimented, or had the person pause with delight as they shook my hand, I think most people (especially men) do not expect a firm handshake from a woman..and it makes them look twice..and remember my name! I found you thru Market Mommies blog hop!
